Biodiesel on deliveries in Greater Oslo from Nexans Langhus

Nexans is committed to reducing CO2 every year and reducing emissions from transportation is an important target. We are dedicated to this work.

One of the measures we have focused on in recent years is to reduce emissions from our own product transportation to wholesalers in Greater Oslo.

At the end of May 2023, we launched a transition from diesel to HVO100 biodiesel on our trucks that make local deliveries in Greater Oslo.

“ By replacing fossil fuels with biodiesel, Nexans Langhus reduces CO2 emissions from transportation in Greater Oslo by around 85%. This amounts to over 50 tons of CO2 per year*. ”

This is a further development of the measure introduced in 2022. At that time, we reduced the number of trucks driving local goods transportation from two to one truck, while at the same time increasing capacity by 90% per trip.

- Together, these two measures allow us to increase the capacity of each delivery while significantly reducing emissions. This is a major environmental benefit," says Kyrre.

Generally lower transport-related emissions

The fact that we are now switching fuels and significantly reducing our emissions also benefits our customers. It will contribute to a product delivery with less environmental impact than before, and the reduction contributes to better results for their reporting of Scope 3 emissions.

“ We've done some of the work now, but we're not there yet. We have a vision of zero emissions on local distribution as soon as it is practically possible to implement ”

This means using new types of vehicles in the future.

In addition, the majority of the products we sell are locally produced in Langhus in Akershus, or in Grimsås in Sweden.

This contributes to significantly lower transport-related CO2 emissions than if production took place outside the Nordic region.

Control over what is filled

In order to have as much control as possible over the consumption and emissions from the delivery, fuel is only filled by one partner with an approved certificate.

The product we use is ISCC certified, which means that the social rights of workers are secured throughout the value chain, food production is not restricted and it does not contribute to deforestation.

We want to show our partners that Nexans means business. We will be the cable supplier that offers the market sustainable solutions.

*The calculation is based on 63,000 km driven per year, with 3.6 liters per mile. This results in a consumption of 22,680 liters of diesel per year. 85% reduced CO2 with HVO100 gives just over 51 tons. The reduction is for the car in isolation compared to traditional diesel.
