Cables from Rognan connect regions in Amazonas
Background:
The Amazon is one of the most inaccessible places in the world. With its function as the "lungs of the world", the area is at the same time one of our most vulnerable. In order to ensure communication and improve the health and education offer, the internet must be expanded, but it must be done very carefully.
What we've done:
At Rognan plant, we produce specially adapted fiber optic cables for the riverbed in the Amazon. We have delivered cables with little impact on the environment, without the need for maintenance but still equipped with the latest technology. They are shipped out of Nexans, reloaded into rafts and then carefully placed on the riverbed.
Results:
52 municipalities along the Amazon River and 1,600 schools now have access to the Internet at speeds of up to 100 GB / sec. This provides opportunities to improve public health, education levels and support sustainable development in the Amazon.
