Big savings and fewer emissions

Shore power works by connecting fish farms to the local power grid on land via submarine cable instead of using diesel generators. This means that the farms receive electricity directly from land-based power sources.

By phasing out diesel generators on the offshore fleets, operating costs are reduced by more than 85%, while at the same time around 700,000 litres of diesel per salmon generation are cut. This corresponds to an emission reduction of 1,860 tonnes of CO₂ equivalents.

In other words, a significant environmental benefit.

In addition, shore power provides a more stable power supply, which is crucial for liner systems, lights and other critical equipment.

Provides a better working environment

Ballangen Sjøfarm has put environmental improvement high on its agenda, and shore power is an important part of this initiative.

In addition to lower emissions, the solution provides a better working environment for employees, with less noise and vibration compared to diesel generators. The welfare of the fish is also improved, as calmer surroundings reduce stress levels in the facility.

For these sites, a 24kV high-voltage cable has been chosen, adapted to both power consumption and distance from shore.
